Math:
Monday (04/25) :
- Lesson 15- 9 Building with Solid Figures.
- Math Standard(s): 1.G.2: Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
- We completed Lesson 15-9 Building with Solid Figures worksheet today.
Tuesday (04/26):
- Lesson 15- 10 Problem Solving: Use Reasoning.
- Math Standard(s): 1.G.1: Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes that possess defining attributes.
- We completed Lesson 15- 10 Problem Solving: Use Reasoning worksheet today.
Wednesday (04/27):
- New topic today: Lesson 16- 1 Making Equal Parts.
- Math Standard(s): 1.G.3: Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
- We completed Lesson 16-1 Making Equal Parts worksheet on BLUE class today.
Thursday (04/28):
- New topic today: Lesson 16- 1 Making Equal Parts.
- Math Standard(s): 1.G.3: Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
- We completed Lesson 16-1 Making Equal Parts worksheet on RED class today.
Friday (04/29):
- New topic today: Lesson 16- 2 Describing Equal Parts of Whole Objects.
- We completed Lesson 16-2 Describing Equal Parts of Whole Objects worksheet on BLUE class today.
- I realized that some students are not solving one type of math problems correctly. In the first picture, some students would only count 4 blocks (the ones that are visible). I did this hands-on activity to show students that they're one hidden block behind (picture 2). I turned the table around so the students could see and learn that there's a hidden block that should be counted.
The third and fourth are a more complicated problem. Despite turning the table for students to see the back side, some students were still not able to solve this. The last two images are when I used a white paper to divide the middle. Now, students were able to know that they're 7 in the front and 13 in the back, making a total of 20 blocks.
Science/Social Studies (Interconnections):
Monday (04/25) :
- Watched videos about "sink and float".
- Thumb up/down vote. (sink or float).
- First picture: I asked what will sink and what will float. Students found the pattern that lighter objects will float and heavier objects will sink.
- Second picture: I then asked why such an heavy object like a ship would float. Students answered that it's because the sea is huge, and comparably, the ship is small. They also said that it's because the bottom is circular with air.
- Third and fourth picture: I then asked why some boats/ships do sink. Students were not able to figure out after several guesses, so showed them the fourth picture. Then they said that it's because the bottom part is broken (there's a hole).
- Fifth picture: I demonstrated the these objects that are similar in shape to boats would float despite one being a metal object.
- Sixth picture: If water gets inside, the objects would sink even being plastic and light-weighted.
Tuesday (04/26):
- Review: Watched videos about "sink and float". (Thumb up/down vote. (sink or float)).
- The girls are practicing dance from 03:00PM to 03:20PM.
Wednesday (04/27):
- Interconnections(Science/Social Studies) is not taught every day and some lesson can take several days to complete.
Thursday (04/28):
- Watched videos about "sink and float". Review Monday's pictures.
- Thumb up/down vote. (sink or float).
Friday (04/29):
- Review: Watched videos about "sink and float". (Thumb up/down vote. (sink or float)).
